  1. For my interview, I was interviewed by Mrs. Heise who is the assistant principal at Farmingdale elementary school. I went on Monday April 26, 2010 after school. Since I want to become an elementary school teacher, I figured she would be a good person to interview me because she has taken part in interviews in the past.
We went to her office and she asked me a few questions. Not only did she ask me the questions from our sheet, she pulled out her normal interview questions. The most difficult question to answer would probably be “how to do you handle your classroom management?” This was really just difficult because I am obviously not a teacher yet, but I was able to use examples from teaching Sunday school which really surprised her.
After the interview she asked if I had any questions and I did not really have any. But, I did ask her how the school was handling the budget cuts. She told me that luckily Pleasant Plains District #8 has a million dollar rainy day fund, but the High School is in dire need of repair so they probably won’t receive much of the million dollars. She said that they are getting rid of a few positions and cutting back on spending across the board. She also told me that if I ever needed to practice an interview again before an actual interview, she would which I think is very helpful.

  2. I was interviewed by Jon Broadbooks, editor of the SJ-R. Although he’s not exactly what I really want to be, he is still in the position that I hope to be in one day. It took place on Tuesday, April 27 over the phone. I was at my house and he was at his own office.
I learned that it is good to be very confident in what you have to say. Always have some kind of answer to ask to the interviewer, it’s good to know about what the place you applied at and what the boss expects of you. The most difficult question he asked me was “why do you think leadership is such a key component to editing and what will you do with your roles as a leader?”
My interviewer also gave me some feedback during the interview and had a few things to say. If you have no creative way to think quickly, go with the textbook answers. Be confident in who you are. Try to look up who you applied to and think of some questions to ask before the interview.

  3. I interviewed Mrs. Rosiland Dennis, who was the school pyschologist for the Pleasant Plains district for a number of years. I interviewed her at her home in Bluff Wood off of Koke Mill road on Friday April 30, 2010.
During the interview, I was originally a little nervous, because she approached it as a very real interview. She wasn't the Mrs.Dennis that had been the Snowball sponser for three out of the four years of my high school career, she was a potential employer at a psychologists office. It was interesting because while I knew some of the questions she was going to ask, I actually found some of them difficult to answer. Even though it wasn't a real interview, I thought it felt like one since my nerves were so high. The most difficult question that she asked was what would I think my teachers would say about me. I wasn't really sure since I'm not one of the kids who sticks out too much. I normally keep to myself during class and just do what I am told.
Mrs.Dennis noticed that I was nervous through out the interview and that I didn't seem confident in myself. She said that by coming across confident, the interview would go much better and I would be more likely to get the job that I was seeking.

  4. I was interviewed by Mike Forsythe he is a retired police officer but still remembers his own personal interview when he got accepted to his first police job. He is now a security supervisor at the Willard Ice Building in Springfield. The interview took place at our house on May 2.
I actually learned a lot from this interview. I had a job over the summer but I wasn't interviewed I just received the job when I applied for it. I learned that I need to be more confident in what I say when answering questions. Also I learned to prepare myself for the questions that are going to be asked so that I am not just trying to make stuff up on the spot.
The most difficult question I was asked was "If I were to ask your teachers to describe you, what would they say?" This was difficult because I'm not sure what they would say. I guess some teachers would say I am quit and do not disturb the class. However, with other teachers they could say I am more of a class clown but I guess the answers would differ depending on which teachers were asked this question. I hope I left a good impression with each teacher I have had over the last four years.
My interviewer gave me some good feedback. He said to be more confident in my answers and speak clearly and not mumble when replying to answers. Also answer every question fully and truthfully.

  5. I was interviewed by Patti Walbalm she has been a farm mechanic for almost 25 years but also works for the State of Illinois. This interview took place at her home just outside of Plains on April 30th. She has been interviewing people for the last ten years. This is how my interview went...
I have known Patti ever since I was born, so I'm pretty comfortable around her. She started asking me the questions and I had been thinking about all of them for sometime, with every question she asked I answered with confidence. And tried to answer every question to the best of my abilitys. She was really impressed with how I turned my negatives into a positive for being an automotive technician.
She also asked me questions that were not on the list just to get me thinking that it was an actual interview. My favorite question she asked was "how have you changed over the past four years and now that you are about to go to college." Ths is a challenging question to answer when you look back on evey thing that has happened. I told her that I changed the most my senior year when my graandfather passed away. After he passed I had to alway be at my grandmothers side doing things for her cleaning her house, mowing her lawn, and basically doing whatever she asked me to.
I really enjoyed getting interviewed and Patti was really impressed with how I handled all the questions. I just hope that my interviews in the future are as much fun as this one.

  6. My profession is a college football coach. So for my interview I interviewed the legendary IHSA football coach, coach Oller. The interview took place on April 29, 2010 during third hour in the athletic directors office. I learned many great things from the interview that will affect my future career in college coaching. Coach Oller has been coaching football for many years and has a lot of great advice when it comes to coaching and playing the game of football.
From the interview I learned that there are a alot of components that go into the game of coaching, more than just telling what kids what to do on certain plays. Coach Oller explained how coaching has to do with recruiting, marketing, and being able to inspire men to accomplish tasks. I also learned that the profession of football is very competitive and coach Oller explained that the ones who committ themselves fully and give all of their effort at all times are the ones who end up being the great ones.
The hardest question that I answered was when he asked me about my strengths and weaknesses. I think that when it comes to football it can be hard at times to understand to what we are doing wrong at times. And I think what he said also applies to life because at times we dont notice our actions because we cant see ourselves acting. Also it was relativley hard for me to think of my biggest failure because it is hard to recap your biggest failure into one moment for me. I also learned that in the profession of coaching it is extremley important to network and meet other people who are knowledgable and know reliable people that could end up helping you.
My feedback from coach Oller was good. He overall said that I have my goals in front of me and I just need to focus and work extremley hard to accomplish them. He went on to say that instead of just going through the motions in college I need to be very disciplined and understand what I need to do to be successful. I thought that the interview with coach Oller was very beneficial and I enjoyed it

  8. For my interview, I was interviewed by my mother, Janet Albers, who is the Program Director at SIU. She has been in charge of hiring and conducting interviews of potential employees for 11 years. The interview was done on May 1st during the day. I had to drive to the SIU Medical Center where Dr. Albers works to be interviewed. When I got there she had me come to the conference room and that is where she conducted the interview. I figured that since Dr. Albers has been hiring residents for over 11 years she would be the best candidate to interview me.

I learned that while being interview you must remain confident in all your answers. I also believe that the interviewer should be "wowed" by the interview, either by an answer or by something that you wear that catches their attention. I also learned that if you know something about the place that you are applying to it will help and make yourself look dedicated to getting the job.

The question that I found difficult to answer was "What is your biggest weakness?", because I wanted to pick something that was not too revealing into a fault that I have. Overall, I was glad with my interview experience and the interviewer felt the same, she did tell me to keep better body language and eye contact. But other than that the interview went well!

  9. For my interview I was interviewed by Mrs. Brandon, who is the guidance counselor at Pleasant Plains High School. She interviewed me in her office.
I learned for this experience to be confident with the answers you are giving. If you do not seem clear and confident while giving your answers they might not know if you are giving truthful answers. Mrs. Brandon said I had very well-thoughout answers.

The hardest part of the interview for me was being asked my biggest weakness. I tried to turn my negative into a positive for this job. It was also hard to say what you would do in certain situations. A person might think they know what they would do, but when they are put in that position will they respond how they are supposed to?

Overall I was glad we did had this mock interview. It helped me realize what a real interview might be like so when I do apply for a job I will be comfortable being interviewed.

  10. For my mock interview I was interviewed by Mary Sturgeon. She is a Dental Hygienist at two Specialist Offices. I have interviewed her before for Rite of Passage. We interviewed in Ms. Radliff's Room on Wednesday, April 28, 2010.

During my interview I learned that in order to become a Dental Hygienist you have to get your associates in Science and major in Dental Hygiene. I aslo learned that it would be smart to take classes that are relative to the occupation during the summer before the actual progam begins. The program I would go into would be at Lake Land College. The program would last for twenty months.

The hardest part of the interiew would have to be whenever Mary asked me what my strengths and weaknesses were. I think that my weaknesses were the hardest to say because those are the most embarrassing, but I managed to turn them into positives.

Overall, I enjoyed the mock interview. I think it helped me to get a better understanding of the career. I think I would enjoy what Mary does. I am excited to possibly pursue this career in the future. Mary was a great help and I really enjoyed what she had to say.

  11. I was interviewed by Chris Murphy. Chris runs his own firm in springfield and has his CPA. He has his own office off of 7th street. Him and his staff do the financial things for businesses and personals.
When I walked into the building I was very nervouse cause I have never met him before and he was one of my moms friend. As I was wating in the loby I just kept getting worse then when I looked at the door and saw him standing in jeans and a tshirt I felt over dressed and relaxed.
As we were doing the interview I found that chris and myself had many things in common. To be exact he played the tenor sax in the band and also hates working in groups. I found that interviews aren't that bad as long as you know what you are talking about and it's about yourself so just be honest.

  12. I was intervied by Mr. Bohem. Who is a teacher for pleasant plains highs school during freshman lunch. I was being intervied for an artist position.
I nervous or into the interview than i would for an actual job. i did think it would be a good learning experience but at the same time i knew who he was and it didnt feel like an interview.
My hardest question was my weaknesses, because i didnt want to make myself look bad but i also didnt want to look like i was into myself to much. But he said to always make your weaknesses into a strengh for example i said i procrastinate and he said use that and say i work well in a fast past and short time limits.

  13. I was interviewed by Mary Reynolds on April 30th. She has interview me over the phone because she could not leave work, and I was not allowed to go there either. I learned that Mary works for the state, and she has long hours. She works the most when Congress is in session.
The most difficult question Mary asked me was if I would like to just do one career or if I would enjoy doing both. I thought this was hard because I love both law and accounting. Even though it would be a tough choice for me, I told her I would be whatever the company needed at the time.
Mary said that my answers were very good. She said that my answers made me a very good prospective employee. I made myslef very flexible with the questions she gave. Which Mary said was a very good thing.
