Using this blog we will "journal" our thoughts after each college representative, student, and professional attends our class.
Please describe your experience during college representative day. (What did you learn? Did you get all of your questions answered? Did the reps ease your anxiety in the application process? Would you like to invite different college reps to visit our classroom? And any other question or thought you would like to respond to...) I am looking for a journal-type response. Please write in complete sentences and paragraph form.
Well, you're absolutely right, the next step is extremely scary. I know I have experienced times of extreme anxiety just thinking about college. A few things that I plan on doing to prepare for "the next step" is to first of all just taking a deep breath and relaxing. Clearing your mind and taking a second to just reflect not only allows you to focus on important matters, but also helps you focus more clearly (obviously). After that I plan to just let things come as they do... Sometimes the most spontaneous things can cause the most beautiful results.
ReplyDeleteThe college representative day was great. Not only did I have all my questions answered, but I got a much better understanding of what the college life is like. Though I enjoyed myself, I'm still fairly nervous about the application process ;). I think more college reps is a great idea... Maybe we can do some sort of video chat or something with a university from outside of the United States? Just a thought..
Take care all!

I was very pleased to find out that some schools did not have an application fee. College in itself is expensive and tacking on another fee is just crazy.
ReplyDeleteI was able to get my questions answered and this helped with my narrowing of my college choice. I am still a bit troubled by the scholarships available to me but I was pleased to hear about the scholarships given through the schools themselves.
Overall I would say this visit that the schools made did help with some lingering questions I have had and they have been very helpful for my decisions that are in the near future.

I learned that college life won't be as difficult as I have been anticipating. I got all of my questions answered that had been weighing heavily on my mind for the past couple of months. The reps were extremely cooperative and ready for any questions we asked.
ReplyDeleteI would like if we had another college day. Micahel, I agree with the whole international college day. I could go for some italian or irish men, I mean representatives right now. I think if we had some info on study abroad programs, then that could make some of the students more interested in this unit.

During college rep day I learned what colleges are looking for on an application, the safety precautions campuses take, the food they offer, and what their most popular majors are. This information is good to know because it helps in my deciding where to go to college a bit more.
ReplyDeleteI believe that all of the reps were very helpful and therefore I got all of my questions fully answered.
Personally, I do not think we need another college rep day but if other people in the class want it then it wouldn't hurt.

During the college rep. day, I realized that there were quite a few things that I have been overlooking while I filter through colleges to choose from. Had it not been for having the representatives there and being able to hear the different questions that everyone was asking, I would have never thought about things like parking or what size the dorms are. The representatives were awesome; they knew every answer to every question. I personally have not experienced any anxiety towards college although my mom has been freaking out. I have recently started the application process to a few colleges and for some reason she is scared that I am going to drop out of high school and flip burgers for the rest of my life.
ReplyDeleteThe college rep. day was very helpful; however, I’m not sure how much good another one would do us. I think we now have a better idea of what to ask the representatives when we call the colleges to which we wish to apply. My sister studied abroad when she was in college and I really want to do the same thing, so I think the whole international college chat would be awesome!

College rep day was pretty entertaining. I don't know how much I learned that I didn't already know, but I guess the knowledge I previously attained was confirmed. All the reps were nice and represented their colleges aptly. I've visted a number of colleges/universities and I realized, for the most part, any decent college/university has a rep that describes the college/university in a manner that makes it appear very attractive. I think the only way to really get a feel for a college, and decide whether or not it is a good fit for you, is to actually visit the campus, stay the night in a dorm, or experience the campus life. In all honesty, the college application process has to be self-motivated. I think, up to this point, the college activities we've done in senior transitions are the basis of a great start, but now it's each student's responsibility to further his/her own experience in academia.

The college rep day was interesting. It gave us a chance to talk seriously about college in a more relaxed environment. All my questions were answered. I did learn a few new facts about these colleges, but it is getting to the point were, after two years of preparation, I'm hearing the same things over and over. It will be nice to final end the preparation with a decision.

For preparing for my future, I would select the colleges that I am interested in, find out all the neccessary information, talk to the representatives, and visit the campus.
ReplyDeleteMy experience with the representatives was great. They made the process of learning information about college so much easier and more more enjoyable than looking up information on the internet. I learned many things, I learned things from how many students attended, to what foreign language classes they offer. And the best part of having the representactives come in is that you are guarenteed to have all of you questions answered and more. The representatvies did a beyond great job with easing my anxiety, interacting with the representives made it feel real that the college expericence was right around the corner. Of course I would love to have more representatives come in the class and speak with us, it makes the process so much better.
What I will do to prepare for the next step is to ask my parents even more in depth questions about life. I will also as other people such as older friends and relatives who are in college.
ReplyDeleteOver the summer I have also taken the anishative in doing everything on my own.
My expierence with the college representitives was very informational. I learned a lot about what college life was actally like and I can feel very safe there. All of my questions were awnswered and I felt very confident about them.
I would like to invite more college reps, mostly like college reps from larger cities.
I get kind of nervous thinking about college, but i think that the "college fair" helped me understand more. It helped me think about what i want to be and how close it really is. I know that before i go choose a college i am going to forsure visit.
ReplyDeleteI got a lot of questions answered and figured out that I am most likely going to stay here in Springfield at Lincoln Land just to get the feel of college life first. I know the surroundings so I want to take one step at a time.
I am still undecided about what i want to be so why go to an expensive college for the basics i can get here cheap. I found out that Lincoln Land and UIS combine for on campus living so i want to look into that because i dont want to be stuck at home and have my parents control me.
I doubt since i will be at Lincoln Land that i would worry about other colleges but i guess i would still like to look at other colleges for when i transfer after my two years.
The college rep day was a very fun and informative experience. The representatives portrayed their colleges very well and answered most of my personal questions as well as everyone elses. Through these questions, I learned about colleges I hadn't even thought about and in a way it persuaded my future thinking.
ReplyDeleteI also think we should have another college rep day before the end of the semester with a bigger variety of colleges and universities from Illinois and some surrounding states if possible. We should also aim for more than four colleges. I think we can do it if we have more time to prepare and arrange it.
The college rep day was very helpful, I got all of my questions answered and know where I will go to college. I will probably go to Lincoln Land to get the feeling of college and to get the basic classes done. I don't feel like I need to have more college reps come in, but if we got to have college reps from bigger cities come in I think that would be a good thing to have.
ReplyDeleteI had more fun at college day than i thought i would. they answered all of my questions and more. i think if we had more time with more colleges then it would make picking a college easier and better for me.
